Teagan Joy

When I began updating this blog again last month I had no idea I would need to write a post like this so soon.  Many of you know, some of you do not but we got surprised Wednesday with the discovery that our 4th child Teagan Joy was going to be making an early appearance.  After over 24 hours of labor the doctors all agreed that a c-section was the best course of action for her.  While a c-section was not what I had ideally had in mind once we got in the OR in was very clear that Teagan was in distress and we needed to get her out as quickly as possible.  Upon delivery they were able to temporarily stabilize her by putting an intibabtion tube in which brought her heart rate from dangerously low back to a more normal level.  She was immediately taken down to the NICU where they could better treat and assess her.  Upon arrival they quickly determined her lungs her very immature, as well as there were several issues with her blood levels that are extremely concerning.  She was put on a special type of ventilator that is easier on her lungs, but still is able to fully compensate for what her lungs can not provide.  They also proceeded to give her two blood transfusions, as well as platelets in the hopes they might could bring her blood levels back to normal.
Initially all of these treatments did help get her stablize, however she did have some back sliding that caused them to need to increase the level of oxygen and respiratory support they were giving her.  Mid day yesterday there was some concern that Teagan might be exhibiting signs of seizure activity, they did an eeg this afternoon to help get a better read on that.

They are running a variety of other tests on her to try to get some direction as to why, beyond being 9 weeks early, her body seems to be in such distress, and yet why she is extremely not responsive to outside stimuli.  We are very concerned for our daughter, and are very grieved to be faced with questions we have no answers to right now.  Our hearts and desires for her have been poured out to the Lord these last two days, as well as the last many months of pregnancy fully knowing that whether or not we understand things here on earth there is a God who is bigger than us and loves and cherishes our children more than we ever could.

We cherish you all and covet your prayers and friendship.  Until we have a clearer picture of the what the future looks like for Teagan we are not discussing the details of the situation with our other three children.  To continually be bouncing around on how she is or isn't doing is not beneficial to them and is honestly very confusing in an already trying situation.  We also wanted to let everyone know that during this very uncertain time we are currently not answering our phones or accepting visitors.  We are needing to keep our focus on Teagan and our other three children, especially while we are waiting on more answers about Teagans future.  Many of you have asked what you can do to help or what we need and quite honestly right now we need y'all to pray.  Teagan is not out of the woods by a long shot and y'all have rallied for our kids before and we are asking for your help again now.  Specific prayers for the next several days are:
1. decreased swelling in Teagans brain- this will help her brain heal and promote function in the rest of her body.
2. Increased lung function- right now she is needing a lot of assistance to breath and the more she can breath on her own the better it will be for her brain and body moving forward.
3. For our other three- as we are trying to navigate the next few days with Teagan which are extremely critical, our other three are struggling.  Please pray for comfort for them as well as discernment for us as we move forward and they begin asking more questions about Teagan.

As soon as there are any updates we will update y'all.  Thank you all for checking on us, and your continual love and support.
The Strattons
