Hospital Day 2
Today is day 2 of Brylee's stay at the hospital. We wanted to give everyone an update thus far (given that this is only a couple of days after the last one so it may be a little shorter) so here we go. Basically, there are no answers yet. I have found that only doctors have an innate ability to turn 1 variable into 5. I get the defensive medicine tactic and I find it sad that doctors are in a situation where they have to cover their own behinds in fear of being sued, but in this particular instance, I find the current doctors' approach very refreshing. They are trying to be as thorough as they possibly can be. After all, the struggles Brylee is facing are the only issues that these particular doctors deal with on a day to day basis. They are the experts with Brylee's situation!!! It is a huge blessing to have a discussion with doctors and they share the same, "take the bull by the horns" approach that I have but do it with a very defensive implementation. What I mean by that, is not defensive medicine, but rather an approach to getting their patient the best possible diagnosis so that the doctors can treat the patient and truly help the patient (instead of putting a bandage on a symptom only to find there was something else going on). I wish we had made more substantial progress in treatment, but before the treatment can happen, I appreciate the doctors trying to understand everything before they begin treating Brylee for her problems. To summarize, the doctors are doing diagnostic tests to see if Brylee has Hirschsprung's (which I now affectionately call Hershey Burger because it is easier to remember), Cystic Fibrosis, A Thyroid Issue, testing her vision to see if she can see, a dietary analysis to understand exactly how many calories she is taking in, and an overall muscular evaluation to see what needs to be done with physical therapy & occupational therapy. We have met care coordinators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, occupational therapists, and a whole slew of other doctors and health care professionals.
I wish we had more clear updates, but it is more of the same. We are still trying to get a grasp on what is really going on with Brylee (in addition to the brain issues she is dealing with). On a much brighter note, Adaline got to go up to the hospital to see Brylee. Brylee lit up like Christmas lights at dusk!!! Brylee did not stop smiling until Adaline left. One of the nurses that is assigned to Brylee came into the room and we were talking about how Brylee came to be admitted. It was an interesting discussion because the nurse said to me, "It sounds like y'all have a lot of uncertainty on the horizon." I smiled at her, paused for a minute, then, in a very matter of fact way said, "Well, Ryesha, my wife and I believe that there is a plan for Brylee's life and she was created perfectly. No matter what happens, we trust and have faith that God has a plan for Brylee's life and it is a perfect plan. Regardless of what the outcome is for her, my wife and I believe that God's plan for our family is exactly the way he has planned, and his plan is the best possible plan for our family. We would not want to be anywhere else because we have faith that God is in control of the situation. When we look at it like that, then we have no fear about what is to come and we have hope for Brylee's future." I could tell that she was a little shocked by my reply but based on her response, I believe that she is either a Christian, or she was very diplomatic with her response. My daughter had a parting gift for me though. After I had finished feeding her, I sat her up and was trying to get her to burp. I felt a wet, warm sensation in my lap. My initial thought was, am I getting that old that I am losing bladder control?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!????!?!?!?! Then I looked down in my lap and my daughter has graciously given me a present that only a daughter can do. She has pooped out the back of her diaper and it was running down my lap. I couldn't believe it! My first thought was great job, because she had been having difficulty pooping. Then, my next thought was, great... I have to drive hope with poop all over my lap!!!! To date, my daughters are the only ones who have pooped all over me. Adaline did it while in Bass Pro in Grapevine. Thankfully, Brylee did it in the confines of a hospital where I could try and clean myself up. FAT CHANCE!!!!!!! Oh well, thankfully somebody invented washing machines and detergent!!
